For what seems like ages, Chevrolet has been teasing photos of the new Camaro ZL1. With allusions to the ZL1's power to trounce competitors, Chevrolet has further piqued our interest. And here at Cole Krum Chevrolet in Vicksburg, Michigan, we are dying to know more.
Deepening our curiosity, GM has released just a few more details about the power of the 2012 Camaro ZL1. This vehicle will officially deliver an unbelievable 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque.
So, how does the ZL1 stack up against the competition? Al Oppenheiser, Chief Engineer, Chevrolet, says, "The Camaro ZL1 delivers supercar performance and technology in the sports-car segment. For sheer power, the ZL1 delivers more horsepower than a Ferrari 458, more torque than an Aston Martin DB9 V12, and better power-to-weight ratio-than a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS."1
By fitting the ZL1 with the most powerful engine the Camaro lineup has ever seen, Chevy has created a unique and powerful driving experience. This engine really packs a punch - outdoing the V8 of the 1969 Camaro ZL1 by 150 horses.
Every Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driver will get to choose between a six-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic. To further enhance the driving experience, the six-speed manual transmission comes fitted with Drive, Sport and Manual modes. And, even with all that power, Chevy doesn't expect their drivers to be changing their tires every two weeks. To prevent this natural wear and tear, the American automaker has specially engineered the Camaro ZL1 with Performance Traction Management (a five-mode traction control system), as well as MagneticRide Control (a tri-setting system aimed at adjusting damping).
